Window cleaner jailed for rape

A window cleaner who repeatedly raped a vulnerable woman during a decade of sexual exploitation of the victim was jailed yesterday

David West sexually assaulted the woman, who was incapable of consenting, at addresses in the Dundee area.

West, 70, knew his victim after working at her family home at his trade.

His victim told the High Court in Edinburgh: “I don’t want to see him again ever in my whole life.”

West, formerly of Archer Street, Dundee, had denied raping the woman on various occasions between January 2007 and May in 2017 but was found guilty of two charges of rape spanning that period.

Lady Wise directed that his conviction should be intimated to the Scottish Ministers, to consider his inclusion on a list of those who are prohibited from working with vulnerable groups.

She also placed him on the sex offenders register.

Reports were ordered and she told the first offender: “In light of the seriousness of the crimes of which you have been convicted I am revoking bail and you will be remanded in custody.”

West’s victim said he had cleaned windows at her flat and added: “He would want to come to my flat and pester me.

“He encouraged me to let him in.”
