An elderly woman was rushed to hospital after being knocked down in a collision with a van in Invergowrie yesterday afternoon.

The incident occurred on the secluded road running from Main Street towards Invergowrie Burn at around 4.20pm.

The victim’s walking stick, a newspaper and a single white shoe were left lying on the pavement following the collision with a van belonging to double glazing installation company Window Man.

Police said the woman had been seriously injured and was taken to Ninewells Hospital, but her injuries are not life-threatening.

He added the driver of the van is to be reported to the procurator fiscal for careless driving.

He was not detained in custody. As the accident occurred just off Invergowrie’s main thoroughfare, drinkers at the nearby Invergowrie Inn were unaware of what had happened just yards from where they sat in the afternoon sunshine.

One said: “We don’t know what happened. We just saw lots of police and ambulances here.”

Police cars were still stationed on Main Street and in the lane leading to the burn for several hours after the accident.

Emergency services were then called to a three-car collision on Dundee’s Perth Road just an hour later.

The collision closed the road and, although one elderly passenger was treated by paramedics at the side of the road, it is not thought she suffered any serious injuries.

The crash closed Perth Road at its junction with Glamis Road, causing tailbacks for drivers heading west from Dundee, until debris was cleared from the road.
