Police investigation after failed mugging attempt in South Inch
Police are looking to trace a man in his early 20s in relation to an attempted mugging in Perth’s South Inch in the early hours of yesterday.
Officers are appealing for information about the attempted theft, which happened at the city centre park between 1.45am and 2am.
A man was approached by another man, with a bike, who engaged him in conversation.
While speaking to the man, the thief stole a wallet from his pocket.
The two then had what police described as “a brief struggle” before the perpetrator made off towards Edinburgh Road.
The thief made off and the victim’s property was later recovered.
Police have suggested the incident may have appeared to any passers-by that it was some kind of late-night fight between two men, rather than an ongoing theft.
A police spokesman said: “Officers would like to trace a man described as white, in his early 20s, about 5ft 6in with blond hair.
“The man was wearing a dark long-sleeved top, blue jeans and white trainers.
“He arrived on the South Inch in possession of a white bicycle. However, the perpetrator left the bicycle behind when he ran off.
“If you were in the area around that time and saw or heard any part of this incident, or if you have any other information that could assist our investigation, please call 101 or speak with any police officer.”
The crime reference is CR/19120/19. Information can also be given anonymously by contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
