Pro-independence march signed off after no objections to council

Thousands of supporters are expected to parade through Perth next month after a proindependence march was given the green light by the council.

A licensing meeting had been scheduled to take place so members could run the rule over the All Under One Banner event, which is to take place on September 7.

However, the local authority received no formal objections to the demonstration, meaning council officers were able to grant permission under delegated powers.

As the march was the only item on the agenda, the meeting was cancelled.

A Perth and Kinross Council spokesperson said: “A committee date was provisionally scheduled to ensure that a hearing could take place if there were objections to the application, as these require to be considered by committee.

“No objections were received therefore the application has been dealt with under delegated powers, as is the normal practice.”

More than 900 people have already confirmed their attendance at the march, with around 2,000 more signalling an interest on Facebook.

The procession will follow a route from Seven Acres Park to the North Inch, stretching just over three miles.

Departing from the Letham park at 1pm, the marchers will head down Newhouse Road and along the Crieff Road and Dunkeld Road into the city centre.

The independence supporters will then turn onto Atholl Street, Kinnoull Street and the High Street.

The march will conclude along Tay Street with marchers mustering on the North Inch at the end of the route.
