Bleachers claim swift revenge

JUNIORS: Luncarty end Gowfers’ cup hopes a week after league defeat

- PETER RUNDO

Luncarty gained instant revenge following last week’s league defeat at home to Carnoustie with a 1-0 victory over the league leaders in the DJ Laing East Region Cup second round.

Calum Kirkcaldy scored the only goal of the game after 42 minutes.

Penalties were required to separate North End and Broughty and it was North End who prevailed, winning the shoot-out 3-1.

It finished 1-1 at the end of 90 minutes with Gary Sutherland scoring for the Dokens and Alassan Jones, on loan from Dundee United, counting for the Fed.

Downfield had no problems seeing off visitors Linlithgow Rose CFC courtesy of a resounding 6-1 home win.

Kerr Hay and Ryan Hunter both bagged braces with Adam Fraser and Lee Hunter also on target.

Kennoway Star Hearts twice had to come from behind to get the better of Forfar West End 4-2 at Treaton Park.

Jamie Montgomery gave West End an early lead, but that was cancelled out by a Scott Findlay penalty conversion.

A Graeme Hart penalty put West End back in front, but Hearts hit back through James Collins and Paul Ferrier whose late double sealed the tie.

Blairgowrie are also through thanks to a 3-1 home win over South Super League visitors Lochore Welfare, extending their unbeaten run to seven games.

Darren Neave got the opener just before the break, but Greig Renton levelled for the Fifers. Ian Plenderleith’s 79th minute counter restored Blair’s lead and Matty Adam added a late third.

Thornton Hibs went out to South Premier rivals Livingston United. After Ben Magee missed a penalty for the visitors, Callum Mitchell grabbed the winner three minutes from half-time.

Forfar Albion may have lost at Bo’ness but boss Stephen Stewart couldn’t have been prouder of his troops’ efforts in drawing 0-0 and only losing 5-4 on penalties.

He felt it was the best 90 minutes since he took charge almost a year ago, with only goals missing.

The Fauldhouse v East Craige tie was postponed, as was Coupar Angus v Kirkcaldy & Dysart.

Scone Thistle thoroughly deserved their 2-0 win at Rosyth to earn a second round tie at home to West Calder.

Victory came courtesy of a goal in each half, Aiden Benvie scoring after a couple of minutes and Alan Carlon adding the second on 52 minutes.

Tayport put their woes of the previous week behind them with a convincing win over Brechin Vics at the Canniepairt.

Jordan Garden scored the only goal of the first half on the 20-minute mark and was on target early in the second half.

Skipper Ryan Suttie added the third with 20 minutes left to book a second round tie at Armadale, impressive 7-1 winners at Bathgate Thistle.

The strong wind was highly influential at Lochgelly where Albert and Whitburn shared four goals with the Lothian side winning 5-3 on penalties.

Dominating the first half, the Burnie only had a Martin Russell goal to show for it at the interval.

And with the elements behind them, Albert’s James Gunn equalised on 73 minutes with Patrick Armour heading them in front four minutes from time.

However, Taylor scored a late leveller to deny the Fifers the victory their performance deserved.

The Sauchie v Newburgh game was one of four ties washed out.

Montrose Roselea posted their first North Region win of the season at Maud and on their second half performance it was just deserved.

Connor Mitchell slid in the winner from close-range 10 minutes after the restart.
