Primrose chalk up second league victory

-

Crossgates Primrose posted their second Premier Division win of the season in defeating Blackburn United 3-1 at Humbug Park.

Chris Templeman, Scott Lawrie and Ryan McDonald got the goals.

That was the only Premier fixture to be played as Dundonald’s clash with Newtongrange Star was postponed.

In Conference A, Burntisland Shipyard were sunk by two penalties at Haddington Athletic. The first was converted by Gordon Harris after 15 minutes but that was cancelled out by Jason Finlay on 39 minutes.

Although there wasn’t much between the sides thereafter, Harris was proficient from a second spot-kick midway through the second half.

Having beaten Tweedmouth in the Football Nations Cup, Inverkeithing Hillend Swifts made it a cup double over the Berwick-based visitors, their 3-0 win earning them a place in round three of the Alex Jack Cup.

Dean Anderson opened the scoring, with Calum Murray and Calum Strang the others on target.

Oakley are also through after a 1-0 win at Dalkeith Thistle.

In what was hardly a classic spectacle due to the windy conditions, the Fifers were deserved winners, even if they were not at their best.

Skipper Stuart Love’s cool finish from 12-yards on the half-hour mark proved to be the match winner.

Both Glenrothes and St Andrews are out after suffering 2-1 defeats away from home.

Despite Conor Schiavone scoring after only three minutes, the Glens were beaten by Edinburgh United whose two goals came in quick succession shortly before the break.

Brad Donaldson got Tranent’s winner eight minutes into the second half after Saints’ Dylan Honeyman had cancelled out Jones’ 10th minute opener on 35 minutes.

Meanwhile, Kinnoull are through to round two and a home game against Leith Athletic thanks to a 2-0 win at Arniston Rangers.

After an evenly balanced first half which finished goalless, the Perth side got their reward for being the better side in the second half with goals from Ben English on 62 minutes and Dale Smart seven minutes later.
