After back-to-back defeats in the cup and league, Forfar Athletic made sure there was no hat-trick of reversals.

However, the point picked up at home to Clyde left manager Jim Weir deeply disappointed.

Both sets of fans in the 650-strong crowd were treated to a highly entertaining end-to-end encounter.

But that was cold comfort to Weir, who had been looking for a big reaction after last week’s substandard performance at Peterhead. He held a lengthy lock-in with his players after the final whistle.

“We were obviously disappointed with the way we played last week and made a few changes,” Weir said.

“With the conditions, we controlled the first 15 or 20 minutes.

“But I felt we were really undisciplined for the last 20 minutes or so of the first half.

“We were playing a team who did terrific last year. It’s a team that has come up and is always playing on adrenalin, playing new teams and they have just beaten Falkirk and have for a real lift from that.

“I’m disappointed with the second half, too. I don’t feel we had any real control of the game and it was alarming some of the chances we did allow against us.

“So I’m delighted to have ended up with a clean sheet because I think Danny (Lennon) will be disappointed with the clear chances they had and thinking they should have won the game. I can’t disagree with him.”

The home side were denied the lead twice in the 13th minute. Dale Hilson smashed a 20-yard free-kick off the bar, then from the rebound David Mitchell pulled off a brilliant stop to block Jordan Kirkpatrick.

The visitors’ Raymond Grant curled a free-kick inches past the corner of post and bar as keeper Marc McCallum dived full stretch.

Forfar turned up the pressure and Andy Jackson couldn’t believe he hadn’t opened the scoring in the 37th minute when his glanced header landed on top of the net.

They had to thank McCallum for keeping them level when he brilliantly smothered the ball at the feet of Darren Smith.

Moments later the keeper pulled off an even better save to fist away a shot from Mark Lamont.

A scramble at the start of the second half had Forfar hearts in mouths but no one could force the ball home and McCallum again performed heroics.

Clyde dominated the second half without finding a way through a resolute Forfar defence.

A minute into stoppage time Craig Howie almost snatched all three points with a half volley that whistled past the Forfar post.
