Killie star is Taylor-made for Celts boss

-

Celtic manager Neil Lennon is hopeful of signing Kilmarnock left-back Greg Taylor before Scotland’s transfer deadline.

Lennon is looking for another left-back following the summer departures of Kieran Tierney and Emilio Izaguirre, although he was full of praise for Boli Bolingoli’s display in the 2-0 win over Rangers.

Sunderland have also made inquiries over 21-year-old Taylor, who is in the Scotland squad for their upcoming European qualifiers against Russia and Belgium.

When asked if they could sign Taylor, Lennon said: “Hopefully. There’s a bit of a hold-up, not at our end, it’s a third party.

“We will have to see how it develops but Bolingoli can be absolutely delighted with his performance after being written off in more or less every single game so far.

“So I hope that really kickstarts his season because he showed a lot of good qualities.”

Reports claim Celtic defenders Jack Hendry and Calvin Miller could head to Rugby Park as part of the deal.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard dismissed claims he had failed with a bid to sign Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden on loan, and he added: “I don’t think Pep Guardiola would let him go anywhere.”

Gerrard is hoping to get players out on loan before midnight today with the likes of Graham Dorrans, Jason Holt, Eros Grezda, Jake Hastie, Joe Dodoo and the fit-again Jamie Murphy out of the first-team picture.

Gerrard said: “There could be a few out. We are trying really hard to help and support the players that want to go out on loan and play football. There could be one or two outgoings.

“In terms of incomings, I’d be very surprised, but while it’s open, who knows?”

St Johnstone and Kilmarnock look the likeliest of the rest of the Premiership teams to add players with Saints looking for a full-back following Richard Foster’s return to Ross County.

Livingston, who beat St Mirren 2-1 despite the absence of injured boss Gary Holt, look unlikely to bring anyone in.

Under pressure Hearts boss Craig Levein, who saw his team twice pegged back in a 2-2 home draw with Hamilton at Tynecastle, insisted after the game he has the players to climb the table.
