Spotlight on fountains
The fountains in Dundee’s City Square have seen various guises over the years and have provided a focal point in front of the Caird Hall.
Our selection of photographs today takes a look at events over the years.
The picture below was taken on March 25 1989 and shows the City Square fountains switch-on. Quite a crowd gathered to watch the pipe band and the subsequent ceremony.
The picture, bottom right, doesn’t actually show the fountain covered in snow. Instead, in November 1991, a prankster put bubble bath in the fountains in City Square. The strong winds swept the bubble bath throughout the city centre.
At the beginning of 1991, the fountains served as a meeting point for those celebrating the start of the New Year, as well as marking the beginning of a year of events for the Dundee 800 celebrations.
