Dons defender calls for side to be ruthless

- Aberdeen’s Zak Vyner is on-loan from Bristol City.

Aberdeen defender Zak Vyner believes his side needs to be more ruthless.

The Dons dropped their first home points of the season on Saturday when they let a 1-0 lead slip as St Johnstone earned a point in a 1-1 draw.

It was a frustrating afternoon for the Dons and the sight of his side failing to build on an early lead was a familiar one for manager Derek McInnes.

The Aberdeen manager is tired of the self-inflicted goals his side is conceding and while Vyner was not at Pittodrie last season the on-loan Bristol City full-back believes he has the answer.

He said: “We need to be more ruthless in those last inches. Whether it is a tackle or a shot we should be making it.

“We are team who has a lot of quality and we should be up there. We have to play like that and I don’t mean in an arrogant way.

“We have to be a team who will show that when you come to Pittodrie then this is a fortress and we aren’t going to drop points. We didn’t do that against St Johnstone.”

The Dons face a testing three matches on the road with Saturday’s trip to Livingston followed by a Betfred Cup quarter-final at Hearts before facing Rangers in the league.
