Prominent city building to be lit up in red for leukaemia charity
A city centre building is to be lit up red as part of a UK-wide campaign.
Perth and Kinross Council headquarters in the High Street will be illuminated between September 25 and 30 to raise awareness of leukaemia.
This is as part of awareness activities run by national blood cancer charity Leukaemia Care.
Director of patient advocacy for the charity, Zack Pemberton-Whiteley, said: “We’re delighted that Perth and Kinross Council has agreed to turn red.
“This is part of our ongoing efforts to ensure that people are more aware of the vague symptoms of leukaemia which can often be mistaken for other common illnesses, such as the flu.
“As well as enjoying the light-up, we’d encourage members of the public to take our free online course, which will improve their awareness of leukaemia.”
Blood Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) takes place each September. It is a chance for patients, charities and healthcare professionals to raise awareness and share stories of their experience of blood cancer.
Across the UK, more than 50 buildings will light up in celebration of Leukaemia Care’s 50th anniversary as a charity.
Leukaemia is a form of blood cancer, with blood cancer being the fifth most common in the UK. It is also the third biggest cancer killer.
Members of the public are urged to visit their GP if they have any health concerns.
