Wilson wants squad to further their positivity

-

Brechin may have lost last week at home, conceding four goals in the process against Cove Rangers but Glebe gaffer Mark Wilson insists there were still plenty of positives to take from the game, writes Neil Robertson.

It was the former Celtic and Dundee United full-back’s first match in charge of the Angus club since being appointed at the start of this month.

However, it ended 4-2 in favour of Paul Hartley’s side with all six goals coming in the first half.

Wilson was naturally disappointed with the result but on second viewing, he discovered there was much to be pleased about.

Now, he is looking for further positivity when he takes his team to Stenhousemuir this afternoon.

Wilson said: “I was trying to reinforce that (the positives) to the players when we met up on Tuesday night.

“A lot of them were a wee bit down after losing four goals at home but I had to remind them how good a team Cove Rangers are with the calibre of players they have.

“Once I watched the game again on Sunday, there were a lot of positives to take out of that first half.

“Cove controlled the ball much better than us but we created a few chances and scored two really good goals.

“We could have maybe had a third and that’s against a good side.

“The disappointing thing was the second-half performance where we didn’t really get out of our own half for long periods.

“But looking at the overall game, I thought the boys did pretty well considering where we are at just now – there were a lot of positives to take out of it.”

Stenhousemuir parted company with boss Colin McMenamin earlier this week with Davie Irons taking over as caretaker manager.

Wilson admitted there is no accurate way to assess how the Ochilview players will react to that development and instead he will focus fully on his own team.

Wilson said: “You never know as the team may respond well after losing their manager or they could collapse.

“It is quite a tricky one to gauge.

“It is a cliché but we just have to look after ourselves.

“There has been a lot of change at Brechin in the last couple of weeks so we just have to concentrate on our own business.”

Wilson may only have 12 outfield players to choose from with Luke Watt and Jonathan Page, pictured, rated doubtful while Jamie Reid and Sean McIntosh are still out.
