Fifers targeting another cup win on the road

-

William Hill Scottish Cup First Round

Hill of Beath were 2-0 winners at Threave Rovers in the last round to set up another trip south – this time down to Raydale Park to face Gretna 2008.

The Fife side defeated Whitehill Welfare last weekend in the South Region Challenge Cup 2-1 at home and Kevin Fotheringham is confident that his side can progress against a Gretna side that sit next to bottom in the Lowland League.

If it was Lochee United boss George Shields’ plan to rest a few players against Harthill Royal ahead of this weekend’s Scottish Cup tie, it nearly backfired with the Super League North side being taken to a penalty shootout before coming out of their East Region Cup clash last Saturday.

The Super League champions make the trip to the capital to face Lowland League side Edinburgh University at Peffermill.

Kevin Milne took a knock on the ankle last weekend but he is expected to be fit and will be joined by Danny Millar and Gary Kenneth who were missing last week. Bryan Deasley and Connor Birse are the only definite absentees.

Dundonald Bluebell and Crossgates Primrose meet in a Fife derby at Moorside Park in a rearranged game after their first encounter on the opening day of the season was postponed.

Bluebell boss Lee Dair is able to welcome back Scott Durie and Ross Drummond who both missed last weekend’s defeat to Penicuik Athletic in the South Region Challenge Cup.

Crossgates were well beaten at Caledonian Braves last weekend and manager Alan Campbell expects to have the same squad available.

First Division Conference A

Oakley United thrashed St Andrews United 5-0 at Barnetts Park on the opening day of the season and will be looking to take maximum points from the return at Blairwood Park.

Saints will give a debut to new goalkeeper Connor Shaw, signed from Pumpherston during the week, but Nathan Doig is absent.

Oakley boss Stewart Kenny expects to have the same group that were on duty two weeks ago at Peebles.

Burntisland Shipyard have the chance to record their second win of the season at struggling Ormiston.

Shippy welcome back Dean Anderson and Mark Rowbotham but John Francis is a doubt.

Football Nation Qualifying Cup Second Round

Glenrothes travel as underdogs to take on Premier league Camelon at Carmuirs Park.

The Falkirk side sit fifth in the top division with three wins from their six games. Manager Barry Cockburn should have a full squad available.

Jeanfield Swifts boss Ross Gunnion will be hoping his side can build on last week’s win at St Andrews United in the cup as they take on Haddington Athletic in the Football Nation Qualifying Cup at Riverside.

Gunnion’s only absentee is long-term injured Mark Smith.

Alex Jack Cup

The top two in the First Division Conference A meet in the second round at Tulloch Park as Kinnoull entertain Leith Athletic.

Kinnoull are without David Gray through injury but Gordon Norrie returns.

Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts face a tough ask as they welcome Musselburgh Athletic to Ballast Park in the third round.

Swifts were unlucky to go down 3-2 at Preston Athletic in the Challenge Cup and manager Lee Duffy expects to have the same squad to face lowly Premier League outfit Burgh.
