Shearling averages back £25 at Caledonian Marts

Caledonian Marts Ltd, in Stirling sold 221 tups. Shearling averages were back £25 and all classes of ram lambs were harder to sell, resulting in the overall average being £12 on the year.

Texel Shearlings ave £375 (-£50 on the year), Texel ram lambs ave £221 (-£11), Bluefaced Leicester shearlings ave £488 (+£38), Beltex and Beltex X ave £350 (-£10).

Texel judge, David Hamilton, Tippethill awarded the championsh­ip to R Orr, Halbeath Farms Ltd, Dunfermlin­e, with a shearling, selling to £650.

The reserve champion came from R McNee Ltd, Woodend, also with a shearling, selling to £720. Bluefaced Leicester judge, Jamie Pirie, Blairnavai­d, Drymen, awarded the championsh­ip to R McNee Ltd with a shearling selling to £900, and reserve was A McArthur, Cretlevane, with a ram lamb.

Other leading prices Texel Shearlings £650 Chalmersto­n, £620 and £550 Chalmersto­n, £520 Chalmersto­n, Greenwall, Kilmeny (Islay) and Rusha. Texel ram lambs £340 Duncairnie, £320 Halbeath. £300 Duncairnie, £250 Nochnary.

Bluefaced Leicester shearlings £800 Carden, £600 Thorn, £550 Mains of Burnbank and Thorn (x3), £420 Mains of Burnbank, £400 Mains of Burnbank and Woodend, Suffolk Cross shearlings £400 (x2) Woodend.

Beltex X shearlings £520 Dumfin Mill, £480 Woodend, £450 Easter Ochtermuth­ill and Woodend, £420 Woodend.

Charollais shearlings £300 Upper Auchenlay. Blue Texel ram lambs £420 and £370 Millside.

Suffolk ram lambs £250 Nether Carse (x2) and Prettsmill.
