Shearling averages back £25 at Caledonian Marts
Caledonian Marts Ltd, in Stirling sold 221 tups. Shearling averages were back £25 and all classes of ram lambs were harder to sell, resulting in the overall average being £12 on the year.
Texel Shearlings ave £375 (-£50 on the year), Texel ram lambs ave £221 (-£11), Bluefaced Leicester shearlings ave £488 (+£38), Beltex and Beltex X ave £350 (-£10).
Texel judge, David Hamilton, Tippethill awarded the championship to R Orr, Halbeath Farms Ltd, Dunfermline, with a shearling, selling to £650.
The reserve champion came from R McNee Ltd, Woodend, also with a shearling, selling to £720. Bluefaced Leicester judge, Jamie Pirie, Blairnavaid, Drymen, awarded the championship to R McNee Ltd with a shearling selling to £900, and reserve was A McArthur, Cretlevane, with a ram lamb.
