Late heartache for Star

JUNIORS: Goalkeeper’s red card sees Kennoway lose out to Fauldhouse United

- MARK JOHNSON

Kennoway Star Hearts lost 5-3 to league leaders Fauldhouse United despite leading 3-2 with 20 minutes to go at Park View.

The Fife outfit had goalie Willie Thomson sent off with no keeper on the bench to step between the sticks.

Michael Wallace put Fauldhouse in front on 23 minutes but Kennoway were level within a minute through Paul Brown. Lee Bryce made it 2-1 on 28 minutes only for Fauldhouse to equalise soon after.

Liam Newton put Kennoway back in front in 58 minutes but after Thomson saw red, Sam Watson equalised on 71. David O’Donnell scored soon after before the visitors added a fifth with two minutes remaining.

A late goal from former Raith Rovers defender Colin Leiper was enough to hand Lochore Welfare another loss at home to Armadale Thistle.

Thornton Hibs made hard work of beating Harthill Royal at Memorial Park and it needed a late winner from Chris Ireland to take the points.

Craig Johnston put Harthill in front after 15 minutes but Garry Thomson equalised for Hibs 10 minutes before the break, only for Daniel McNab to put the home side in front with a great free-kick moments later. Greg Fernie equalised for Royal on 75 minutes and it looked like Thornton would have to settle for a draw until Ireland popped up with four minutes remaining to make it 3-2.

Carnoustie Panmure have gone seven points clear at the top of the Super League North table following a comfortable 3-1 win over Forfar West End at Laing Park.

The Gowfers took the lead on 12 minutes with a fine passing move that culminated with a wonderful cross by Michael Cruickshank and a thumping header from Paul McLellan that gave Gary Thain no chance.

Despite enjoying the majority of pressure it wasn’t until the 77th minute that Carnoustie doubled their advantage when Ryan Dignan headed home a Gordon Macdonald cross. Six minutes later Jamie Winter fizzed a ball 50 yards across the park into the path of McLellan who cut inside before curling the ball into the bottom corner.

West End did pull a goal back from the penalty spot from Graeme Hart after Sam Simpson was penalised for a push but it was nothing more than a consolation for Derek Lawson’s side.

Lochee United looked like they would suffer a shock defeat at home to Scone Thistle at Thomson Park but the reigning champions took all three points with a late penalty.

An own goal with 10 minutes to go had put Thistle in front and they looked to be taking the points until Kevin Milne equalised on 86 minutes and in stoppage-time, Scott McComiskie scored the winner from the spot.

Broughty Athletic were another side to leave it late after they came from behind twice to take a point from Luncarty.

An opportunistic strike from Robbie Holden saw the Perthshire side lead until Josh Skelly levelled it up on 65 minutes. Jonny Kelly’s side regained the lead through Richard Donovan and looked to be taking the points until Greg Warwick smashed home the equaliser in added time.

North End had to come from behind to take a point in a 2-2 draw at home to Downfield.

In the Premier League South Newburgh took advantage of Stoneyburn being in cup action with their 4-1 win away to Linlithgow Rose.

Scott Sutherland opened the scoring on eight minutes but the home side were level shortly after. The second half was all Newburgh and Jack Hutchison put Burgh back in front on 48 minutes before Sutherland scored his second on 57 minutes to make it 3-1 and Aidan Edwards added a fourth with 15 left.

Rosyth tasted defeat at home, losing 2-1 to Sauchie Juniors.

Barry Sibanda had equalised for Rosyth after a Tam Hampson header came back off the bar before Colin Paterson was sent off for something said to the referee after a Rosyth player received an eye injury. Then late on Hampson was also sent off after a poor challenge.

East Craigie have gone top of the Premier League North table after an emphatic second-half performance against pre-match leaders Blairgowrie at Craigie Park.

Gary Axworthy had put Blairgowrie in front in the first half but after the break the home side roared back with goals from James Malone, Finlay Baird, Rory Faulkner, George Johnston and Adam Brown.

Coupar Angus lumped the pressure on Michael Gormley’s injury-ravaged Lochee Harp, winning 3-2 at Foxhall Park. Alan Cruickshank scored twice for Coupar with Harp not helping their cause with an own goal. Nathan Scott and a trialist scored for Harp.

Dundee Violet edged a tight game with Forfar Albion, winning 2-1.
