City slip lets Reds move eight clear

- Newcastle goal hero Matty Longstaff.

Champions Manchester City fell eight points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool after suffering a rare 2-0 home defeat to Wolves.

Adama Traore put the visitors in front 10 minutes from time and the 23-yearold made certain of the win in the dying seconds as City suffered their second league loss of the season.

Liverpool had beaten Leicester 2-1 at Anfield on Saturday with a James Milner penalty deep in injury time keeping their 100% record intact.

Newcastle increased the pressure on under-fire Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with a 1-0 win at St James’ Park.

Matty Longstaff enjoyed a dream league debut for the Magpies, settling an underwhelming contest with the only goal of the game after 73 minutes.

United’s defeat means they lie 12th in the table, just two points above the relegation zone, after picking up just nine points from their first eight games of the season.

Arsenal moved up to third in the table, just a point behind Pep Guardiola’s City, thanks to a 1-0 win over Bournemouth at the Emirates Stadium.

David Luiz scored the only goal of the game in the ninth minute after heading home Nicolas Pepe’s corner.

Chelsea remained a point behind their London rivals after thrashing Southampton 4-1 at St Mary’s.

Tammy Abraham celebrated his England call-up with the opening goal after 17 minutes.

Mason Mount soon doubled the visitors’ lead and although Danny Ings halved the deficit, Frank Lampard’s side restored their two-goal advantage six minutes before halftime when N’Golo Kante’s deflected shot found the bottom corner.

Substitute Michy Batshuayi completed the scoring in the 89th minute.

Brighton inflicted more pain on Tottenham with a deserved 3-0 win on Saturday.
