Sixth win on spin for Blue Brazil who sit second

COWDENBEATH 1 EDINBURGH CITY 0

Cowdenbeath have finished the first quarter of the Ladbrokes League 2 campaign in second top spot of the division and only one point behind the leaders Cove Rangers.

The win against Edinburgh City made it six straight wins for the Blue Brazil but manager Gary Bollan, delighted to have received the September Ladbrokes League 2 Manager of the Month award, very much has his feet on the ground.

The game saw few really clear chances, although home skipper David Cox forced a fine save from City keeper Aidan McAdams in the first 15 minutes and then a minute from the break he flicked the ball into the net from close in after poor defensive work from the visitors.

Seconds later Edinburgh were down to 10 men when captain Craig Thomson saw red for a reckless tackle on home midfielder Connor Smith.

City tried to come back in the second period and Danny Handling, who hit the outside of a home post in the first period, saw Cowden keeper Peter Morrison save well late on but home sub Jordan Allan also hit wood as neither side could strike the target.

Cowden have 21 points from nine games and lie in second spot but former Livingston and Forfar boss Bollan said: “I felt that in the first half we were really effective and created some good chances and at the other end we defended very solidly.

“We have set targets for all stages of the season and I am delighted to be sitting on 21 at this stage.

“But we have to realise that we are at a very early stage of the campaign and we have to maintain that form, or indeed, improve in many areas in the coming weeks and months.”
