City rivals can benefit from Menzieshill win

-

Grove Menzieshill should regain their touch in front of goal away to Uddingston to retain their lead in the men’s Premiership, while Dundee Wanderers will have another difficult task even with home advantage against Edinburgh University.

A win for Menzieshill would also help Wanderers in their quest which, even at this early stage of the season, must be to finish in eighth place or better.

St Andrews University may well have ambitions to challenge for promotion from Division 2 and the visit of leaders Inverleith will be a real challenge.

Perthshire will be relieved to have their first victory last week and must expect another three points at home to Aberdeen Grammar who, uncharacteristically, have begun the season with three defeats.

Monarchs lead the way Division 3 and are away Strathclyde University.

Scoring an average of four goals per game is good going for Monarchs given their 5-3 defeat to Granite City Wanderers two weeks ago.

Harris at least got on the scoresheet against Monarchs, but an away fixture at Aberdeen University will prove difficult.

Tomorrow sees the start of the Scottish Cups at all levels.

Wanderers should have little in to difficulty in progressing against Erskine Stewart’s Melville and that may also give encouragement for their league matches.

St Andrews University will have a real test away to fellow second division team Dunfermline Carnegie, both of whom must have ambitions of a high finish in the league and also a good cup run.

Monarchs will do well to return from Edinburgh University with any credit.

Three of the local District Cup teams are drawn away.

Menzieshill II must fancy their chances against Aberdeen but it will be much more testing for Perthshire II and Madras, at Inverleith II and ESM II respectively.

Wanderers II have drawn difficult opponents in Clydesdale II but St Andrews University II must have a good chance of progress at home to Fidra Lions.

None of the Reserve Cup teams have easy fixtures and it may well be that all three make their exit at the first attempt.

Western Wildcats III are accustomed to going deep into the tournament and could be too strong for Perthshire III.

Similarly, Wanderers III will not find it easy away to Clydesdale III and the same applies to Menzieshill III even though they are away to Kelburne IV.
