Crossing campaign for busy Perthshire road moves forward
A campaign to install a pedestrian crossing at a busy Perthshire road has taken a step forward.
Perth and Kinross Council road officers have scheduled a site visit to the A93 Perth Road in Blairgowrie after residents raised concerns around difficulties facing elderly people and those with visual impairments trying to cross near the Co-op shop.
The local authority has also confirmed the location is one of a list of potential new crossings to be erected in the next financial year.
Blairgowrie and the Glens Conservative councillor Caroline Shiers said she is “delighted” at the plans.
“I would welcome the provision of a crossing on Perth Road to improve pedestrian crossing of the road,” she said.
“This has been raised frequently since I was elected and with an increase in traffic it is needed more now than ever.
“I am delighted to see crossings have been installed around the town as a result of increased investment by this council administration and I will work with council officers to see this issue tackled too.”
Fellow ward councillor Bob Brawn, also Conservative, echoed his colleague’s comments.
He said: “I would support the provision of a crossing on Perth Road adjacent to shopping facilities.
“Increased traffic flow makes this a difficult place to cross and I understand that there have been continued requests for such provision, the latest from the Macular Support Group in Blairgowrie.
“There have been several new crossings installed of late and hopefully this matter can be dealt with in a similar way.”
