Police in Perth have launched a manhunt after a woman was threatened and robbed at knifepoint near a city primary school.

The 54-year-old victim was walking along a footpath between Tweedsmuir Road and Struan Road when she was approached by a man wearing a hoodie.

He pulled a knife on her and made off with her handbag and purse.

The woman was said to have been left shaken, but unharmed.

The incident happened at about 8am on Saturday, close to the entrance to Letham Primary.

Investigators carried out a series of door-to-door inquiries over the weekend, and are checking local businesses and private homes for CCTV footage. They have appealed for any witnesses to get in touch.

The suspect is described as white, between 20 to 30 years of age and around 5ft 7in. He had an average build and was clean shaven, and was described as wearing a black hooded jacket, with his hood up, and jeans.

Police have been told that, the night before the robbery, residents reported “intimidating” men asking passersby for money at nearby shops.

Detective Sergeant Ryan Thompson, of Dundee CID, said: “The victim was shaken but didn’t suffer any serious injuries.

“This sort of random incident is very worrying. There’s a lot of young families and older people living round here.”
