AUCHTERHOU­SE. Members enjoyed a trip to Dundee Rep to see Oor Wullie. Katie Goldie was presented with the Glamis Babington Trophy for her winning poem on the subject of friendship, a federation competitio­n, by federation president Maureen McLeod.

BALMERINO. President Mary Neison welcomed everyone to the Christmas party. Carols were sung, games were played and refreshmen­ts enjoyed by all.

BURRELTON and WOODSIDE. Members enjoyed a Christmas meal at Burrelton Park. Margaret Gordon organised a memory game and the evening concluded with carol singing.

CARNBEE. Vice-president Catherine Brunton introduced members of Anstruther Rotary. Roderick Skinner spoke on disasters supported by the charity Shelterbox. The Rotary’s male voice choir, accompanie­d and directed by Jessie Lyon, entertaine­d. Competitio­ns: decoration – 1 Pat Richardson, 2 Wilma Ballany, 3 Diana Lawson; flower of the month – Betty Wishart. Jean Davis proposed thanks.

CARNOUSTIE and MUIRDRUM. President Annetta Anderson welcomed members and guest Francis Smith to the institute’s 90th birthday celebratio­n meal at the Station Hotel.

COALTOWN OF BALGONIE. Members enjoyed Christmas dinner at The Coaltown Arms. Everyone received a secret Santa gift and card, and president Catherine Craig wished everyone a happy Christmas and prosperous New Year.

COMRIE. Willie Shand of Kinross gave a talk on the North Coast 500. He was thanked by president Joyce Carnegie. Competitio­ns: handmade card

CRAIGROTHI­E. Members were welcomed to the institute’s 96th birthday party at Pitlessie Pantry by president Catherine Williamson. Trophy winners: Points Cup – Alice Light; Bethune Rose Bowl – Margaret Whiteford; Murray Cake Slice – Alyson Reid; Best Trier – Norma Gibson; flower of the month – Catherine Williamson. Grace was said by Alyson Reid before a festive meal was enjoyed.

DUNDUFF and DISTRICT. Members enjoyed Christmas dinner at Pitreavie Golf Club, Dunfermlin­e. Afterwards games were played and Kate Adamson read poems. President Anne Marshall wished everyone a merry Christmas.

FARNELL. President Ingrid Allison welcomed SWI national chairwoman Linda Retson and Allison Stewart, vicechairw­oman of the Angus Federation, to a special afternoon tea to celebrate 100 years of Farnell SWI. Commander Jim Smith entertaine­d with his own poems on the theme “looking at life”.

GLENFARG. Margaret Scott welcomed members to an evening celebratin­g Christmas, with a buffet supper being followed by entertainm­ent by Lesley Murison and Andzia Scott. Competitio­ns: truffles – Alison Harrison; flower of the month – 1 Helen Quartermai­ne, 2 Allison Messenger, 3 Alison Harrison; decoration – 1 Sheena Chisholm, 2 Allison Messenger.

INVERKEILO­R. Members enjoyed a Christmas meal at the George Hotel, Montrose, followed by a humorous seasonal quiz provided by Glynis Dicken. President Diane Parry thanked Glynis and the hotel staff.

KIRRIEMUIR. Chris Horrocks welcomed members to Christmas lunch at the Strathmore Arms Hotel, Glamis.

MEMUS and FERN. President Davina Farquharso­n welcomed members to Christmas lunch at Finavon Hotel. Competitio­n: best-wrapped gift – 1 Lavina Harvey, 2 Ann Neish, 3 Elsie Nicoll. The president thanked secretary Jane Butterwort­h for arranging the meal and Kathleen Melville for organising payment.

METHVEN. Christine Broadbent welcomed Catherine Forbes, who demonstrat­ed jewellery making. Members were shown how to make a scarf clip and the winner judged by Catherine was Elaine Beck. Competitio­ns: stem of the month – 1 Sheena Johnston, 2 Margaret Pearson.

NEWTYLE. Evelyn Stirton presided. The Rev Barbara Ann Sweetin gave a humorous account of her life in the ministry. Competitio­ns: handmade calendar – 1 Caroline Wilson, 2 Linda Christison, 3 Jean Fotheringh­am; petticoat tail shortbread – 1 Kathleen McInnes, 2 Jean Fotheringh­am, 3 Anne Steel.

NORTHMUIR. President Elma Dickens welcomed everyone to the Christmas lunch in Kirriemuir Golf Club. Mrs May Kidd gave a talk on tea with the Queen at Balmoral. Elma Dickens gave thanks. STANLEY. President Kate Baldie welcomed members and guests to the Christmas party. Cath Lammie entertaine­d with Ruby Mills and Win Reid gave a brief history of Stanley SWI, which recently celebrated its 90th birthday. Mary Nicoll proposed thanks. STRACATHRO. Members attended the Brechin panto, Dick Whittingto­n, followed by a lovely meal at the Caledonian Hotel.
