Gowfers given boost after Luncarty grab victory at Broughty

Carnoustie Panmure remain five points clear at the top of the Super League North with a game in hand on secondplac­ed Broughty Athletic after Jamie McCunnie’s side were beaten 3-1 at home by Luncarty.

The visitors took the lead midway through the first half through Sean Fergus and when Fraser Mills put Luncarty further in front on 65 minutes, the writing was on the wall for Broughty.

Derryn Kesson pulled a goal back on 89 minutes but the visitors countered in stoppage-time and Richard Henderson scored a third for Jonny Kelly’s men.

Tayport were able to climb off the bottom of the league for the first time this season after they backed up last weekend’s win over Luncarty at the Canniepair­t by beating Scone Thistle at Farquharso­n Park.

The deadlock was broken just before the hour-mark with a quickfire double through Liam McArtney and Dayle Robertson.

Tayport nerves were made to jangle when Aiden Benvie pulled a goal back on 83 minutes but Chris McPherson’s men held on.

Lochore Welfare recorded their second win of the season to pile the pressure on struggling Kennoway Star Hearts with a comfortabl­e 3-0 win at Treaton Park.

Todd Arthur opened the scoring on 13 minutes and Logan Donaldson doubled the advantage before half-time.

Ethan Anderson made sure of the points when he added a third on 67 minutes.

It was a bad day for Thornton Hibs who slipped down to sixth place after their game at home to Bathgate Thistle was postponed and Fauldhouse United, Whitburn and Armadale Thistle all moved above Craig Gilbert’s side.

Leaders Blairgowri­e went down 2-1 to East Craigie, with the Dundee side taking over at the summit as a result.

East Craigie led at the break through a goal from James Malone and Paul Moran doubled the lead after the break.

It was game-on with 15 to go after Ben Middleton pulled a goal back but East Craigie held out and now lead by a point with three games in hand.

Coupar Angus climbed off the bottom after a 3-2 win over Lochee Harp at Foxhall Park.

Sam King, Dylan Higgins and Lewis Gemine were on the scoresheet for Coupar Angus with Nathan Scott scoring both of the Harp goals.

Newburgh are now a point behind leaders Stoneyburn after a 4-3 win over West Calder United, thanks to a hat-trick from Scott Sutherland, while Callum Galloway chipped in with a goal.

Rosyth are a point further back from Newburgh after they beat Bo’ness United 4-2 at Newtown Park. Jack Henderson grabbed a brace with Dylan Robb and Mike McMillan also on the scoresheet.

Lochgelly Albert climbed up to fifth after a 2-1 win at Linlithgow Rose. James Gunn and Craig McGuinness were the first-half goal heroes for the Fife side.
