Fly-tipped waste left on a Perthshire road has been traced back to a Dundee resident after details of their name and address were found among the rubbish.

The waste was found close to the A90 on a road near the Perthshire hamlet, Knapp, by a Longforgan resident.

On finding the rubbish, the resident looked through it and found details of the possible perpetrator.

They subsequently brought this to the attention of Perth and Kinross councillor Angus Forbes who alerted police.

Mr Forbes, of the Carse of Gowrie ward, said: “A Longforgan resident sent me photos of recently dumped rubbish on a road near Knapp, this is an area where I have found fly-tipped rubbish before.

“I passed the details to the police and I understand that an officer will visit the address to determine how the rubbish managed to find its way to Knapp.

“It’s really important to bear in mind that the residents at that address may not be connected to this at all or perhaps they paid someone to remove and dispose of their rubbish in good faith.

“I would encourage home owners to be patient and store rubbish where they can, if someone arrives at your door and offers to remove it for you, ask them where it is going.

“Recycling centres are closed so it’s actually quite difficult to dispose of waste at the moment.

“Fly-tipping is a scourge on our countryside, not only that but it’s a huge cost to the public purse which takes money away from other things.”

Fly-tipping has also been an issue elsewhere in Perthshire.

The council recently issued an appeal on social media urging residents to remain vigilant after people paid to dispose of waste, instead dumped it in the countryside. The post read: “In April, after attending a fly-tipping dump site, the owner of the waste was tracked down. They were shocked to find out that waste they had paid someone to get rid of, had been fly-tipped.

“Please remember your waste is your responsibility.”
