Alexander Low, aged 14 years, who lives with his parents John Low, chauffeur, and Mrs Low, Ponderlaw Street, Arbroath, yesterday sustained injuries as the result of a motor accident. The boy, who is employed as a messenger, was cycling down the narrow road which leads off Montrose Road to Culloden Farmhouse. At the same time, a London motor car was approaching the town and at the foot of the lane the machines collided, with the result that the lad was thrown from his cycle. He escaped with injuries to his knees.

Some form of apology is due either from the committee of Auchterarder Highland gathering or the Scottish Tourist Board to numerous tourists and visitors who came to the town on Saturday expecting to find the games in progress. Their inquiries as to where the gathering was being held stemmed from a notice appearing in the publication by the Tourist Board listing summer attractions. The “Lang Toon’s” big day had been on this date for years, but the event was cancelled as it clashed with Lochearnhead Games.
Dundee has been dealt another severe jobs blow with the news that 60 people are to be made redundant at textile manufacturer Godfreys of Dundee Ltd. The company has been involved in a dispute with members of the Transport and General Workers’ Union for several weeks over short-time working, but yesterday announced that it intends to cut 60 jobs. Godfreys employs 230 people in its three plants – Wallace Craigie Works, Old Glamis Works and Balgray Works – and workers in all three will be affected.
