THAINSTONE – Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 1,212 store cattle and young bulls including 51 Young Farmers’ overwinter­ed cattle. Bullocks (608) averaged 265.3p and sold to 339.1p per kg for a pen of four 230kg Simmental crosses from Candyglira­ch, Drumoak, and £1,550 for a 592kg Limousin cross from Gorn, Balfour. Aberdeen-Angus bullocks (72) averaged 248.5p and sold to 309.1p per kg for a 220kg from Pittenkerr­ie, Glassel, and £1,535 for a 570kg from Gorn and for a pen of three 616kg from Overhall, Ruthven. Heifers (444) averaged 265.4p and sold to 334.9p per kg for a pen of eight 218kg Charolais crosses from Highlands, Newmachar, and £1,510 for a 580kg LimX from Gorn. Aberdeen-Angus heifers (35) averaged 237.4p and sold to 266.7p per kg and £1,520 for a 570kg from Gorn.

Bulls (2) sold to 255p per kg and £1,020 for a 400kg Limousin from Newton of Budgate, Cawdor. The event included a nonspectat­or show judged by Blair Duffton, Huntly. Heifers averaged 372.2p per kg or £1,611.29 (+107.6p per kg and £429.75). Steers averaged 279.5p per kg or £1,225.50 (+38.2p per kg and £29.73). The sale topped at £3,600 for a British Blue cross heifer from Garioch YFC member Finn Christie from Newton of Balquhain, Pitcaple, Inverurie. This February 2020-born heifer, bred by Gavin and Janna Greenlaw, Balgairn Farm, Ballater, sold to Gary Bell, Hass-side, Lockerbie. The overall champion prize went to a March 2020born Limousin cross heifer from Finn Christie. Bred by Smallburn Farms, Plewlards, Duffus, she sold for £2,800. The prize for the best overwinter­ed animal went to Strichen YFC member Jenna Ross from Wardhead, Strichen.
