Swimmer books his Olympic Tokyo berth
Duncan Scott and Ross Murdoch can sit down together in the weeks ahead and compare packing notes for a summer sojourn to Tokyo.
The former had already concluded the formalities of securing his place on the British Olympic swim team at the trials in London by dominating the 200m individual medley three days ago.
Scott burnished his haul by winning the 100m freestyle last night, matching his UK record of 47.87 secs.
Having missed out in 100m breaststroke, Murdoch ably rebounded over 200m.
Second to James Wilby but inside the designated consideration time, it ensured the 2014 Commonwealth gold medallist will join an expansive contingent from Stirling University on the plane east.
He was almost a second adrift of James Wilby in the 200m breaststroke final but, critically, the 27-year-old’s time of 2:08.98 was sevenhundredths of a second beneath the cut-off laid down by the selectors.
