JUMP TO IT!
Practical, flattering and low maintenance, the good news is there’s a jumpsuit out there to suit anyone, says Jacqueline Wake Young
Fashion designers have come up with some pretty unwearable items over the years – the jumpsuit is not one of them. Eminently wearable and practical, it has a place in every wardrobe and in recent seasons, from boutiques to supermarkets, it has been in plentiful supply. While there’s a jumpsuit to suit everyone, just like jeans, some thought needs to be paid to the cut, the fit and the fabric to achieve the most flattering silhouette.
It stands to reason that to look fabulous in a slim-legged jumpsuit, a pair of slim legs are likely required. Ditto tapered or straight-cut styles.
A wider-legged jumpsuit will work beautifully with a curvier figure
– especially if there’s a defined waistline created with a belt or a wrap-style top part.
Taller people may have issues with a jumpsuit not being long enough in the body, so it’s best to try it on before ripping off the tags.
But once the right fit is sourced, a jumpsuit will take you anywhere. Dress it up with heels for a night out, or keep it casual with trainers for everything else.
A utilitarian jumpsuit in a sturdy fabric such as denim is a trendy way to go, while a soft fabric that drapes is comfortable and glamorous. With the latter, a trouser slip underneath will ensure a flowing, flattering line.
Best of all, a jumpsuit is a secret weapon when it comes to packing for a holiday. As it’s just one garment doing the job of two, that means less effort putting an outfit together plus a lighter suitcase!
