Clubs to continue showing games
Scottish clubs will continue to be allowed to broadcast league games next season after a deal was struck with Sky Sports.
Clubs have been able to stream all games to season ticket holders this season amid the absence of fans, and sell feeds of non-televised games on a pay-perview basis.
Although plans are in place to admit limited crowds to Hampden for Euro 2020, there remains uncertainty over when restrictions on major events will be lifted in Scotland.
So the deal will allow clubs to sell season tickets, with the option of making the games available to fans online.
A statement from the Scottish Professional Football League read: “With discussions still ongoing between football authorities and the Scottish Government to allow supporters to attend matches in person, the new deal for season 2021-22 season gives certainty to fans and clubs alike on the ability to watch games live on TV.”
SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster added: “For the past few months, there have been intense, detailed discussions between ourselves, Sky Sports and our clubs to give fans certainty that they will be able to watch their heroes playing live next season, irrespective of when supporters are allowed back into stadia. Today’s announcement is a major boost for everyone involved in the game.”
