Spence turns full circle

-

Former Raith Rovers striker Greig Spence has returned to his boyhood club Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts on a short-term contract.

The 29-year-old forward has penned a deal until January with the East of Scotland outfit and revealed he turned down offers from SPFL clubs to return to the Fife side where he spent nearly 10 years as a youth.

Spence, who made the breakthrough at Alloa aged just 16 following his move from Swifts, was signed by Celtic in 2009 but left without making a first-team appearance and went on to win the Challenge Cup in 2014 with Rovers before three separate spells with Alloa Athletic.

Spence has also played for Cowdenbeath, East Fife and Arbroath.

He said: “Anyone that knows me knows how much the club means to me and being able to play for them in a really challenging league this season is the main motivation for signing.

“Deciding to do preseason with them and playing in the games so far has really brought an enjoyment back to football I’ve not had in years.

“Travelling miles for training after work and match days has lost its appeal to me right now, hence the decision to turn down deals from your usual league clubs.”
