Loaders pack bigger punch

- GEMMA MACKIE

Agricultural machinery firm Claas has announced a number of upgrades to its Torion range of wheel loaders including the addition of three new models.

It says the new flagship Torion 1913 and Torion 2014 models feature more engine power, higher lift capacity and greater loading height.

“On both models, the wheel base has been extended by 10cm with the result that the loading height and reach has increased,” added Claas.

It said the height of the bucket pivot point had increased by 23.5cm to 4.15m thanks to a longer lift arm, and a loading height of 4.7m can now be achieved.

The tipping load has also been increased to 12,500 kg for the Torion 1913 model and to 13,750kg for the Torion 2014 model, and the operating weight for both models has increased to 18.5 tonnes for the 1913 and 19.6 tonnes for the 2014.

Claas added: “The engine output has been adapted in line with the increased load capacities and weights to ensure continued rapid and dynamic load cycles.

“With its efficient fourcylinder 7.01 litre Liebherr engine, the Torion 1913 now delivers 222hp while the 7.96 displacement on the Torion 2014 develops 249hp.”

Meanwhile, Claas has added a new mid-range model to the series – the Torion 1511 P.

It says the new model features more power thanks to more engine output and torque, and a more powerful drive.

“Under the bonnet is a 6.8-litre six-cylinder DPS Stage V engine compliant with a rated output of 228hp, which is precisely 40hp more than in the Torion 1511,” added Claas.

“With a maximum torque of 900Nm at 1,600rpm, there is sufficient reserve capacity for even the highest clamp.”

Other features of the new Torion 1511 P model include an increase in the oil pump capacity on the Varipower drive to 145ccm to allow a “smart roading top speed” of 1,800rpm, and a lower operating weight which Claas claims produces a “favourable power-toweight ratio of just 62kg hp”.

Meanwhile, Claas has also announced new options for the other Torion models in the 117, 1410 and 1511 series.

These include optional joystick steering, which can be used instead of the steering wheel for routine tasks.
