Fife Show raises glass to Sassparill­a

Crowds gathered as perfect weather arrived for Fife Show in Cupar. The spectators witnessed the commercial animal take the overall show supreme.

The best of the show’s silverware was presented to the overall show champion from Wilson A Peters, Crieff.

She came in the form of a home-bred 20-month-old black Limousin cross heifer named Sassparill­a. By Carmorn Lionbar, she is out of a British Blue cross Limousin cow.

The commercial was up against the beef winner, sheep supreme, dairy topper and Clydesdale champion in the main ring for the overall champion of champions title.

Leading the beef interbreed was the Belted Galloway breed winner from Allan and Susan Campbell, Alt na Craik, Corrow, Lochgoilhe­ad. This 14-month-old heifer, Clifton Violet, is by Clifton Dougal, having been purchased out of Castle Douglas.

Reserve beef went to the Limousin section winner from Beth Thomson, Hilton of Beath, Kelty. This 16-month-old heifer, Beath Tianna, is sired by Bangtidy Notorious.

The inter-breed dairy champion went to the Holstein second calver Billincoat Secretaria­t Veronese from Jim and Isabel Wilson and sons, Andrew and James, Carskerdo, Cupar. A daughter of All Nure Secretaria­t she is giving 52l and is VG89 having last calved in January.

The Lawrie family, of Cuthill Towers Kinross, produced the reserve dairy inter-breed with their Ayrshire second calver Cuthill Towers Jackpot Easylady.

Also giving the commercial animal a fight for its money in the overall was the Clydesdale champion from the Black family of Newton of Collessie, Ladybank.

This two-year-old filly, Collessie Honeysuckl­e, is sired by Collessie Highlander.

The best among the sheep lines was selected as the Suffolk winner, a twocrop ewe from Stewart Lathangie, Pyeston, Star, Glenrothes.

This was also the breed’s national show, with the winner being purchased out of Thainstone from the Birness flock, having been sired by Castleisle Capaldi, and out of a Birness ewe.

Following this and taking the reserve sheep interbreed was a Bluefaced Leicester one-crop ewe from George Milne, Kinaldy, St Andrews.
