City’s top sportspeople and clubs honoured at awards ceremony
The winners of this year’s Dundee Sports Awards have been announced.
The ceremony at the Apex Hotel began with a moment of applause for Jack Stewart, the six-yearold Dundee West FC player who died recently.
Bruce Aitchison hosted the event, Urban Moves Dance Company provided entertainment and athletes Gemma Lumsdaine and Sam Hickey shared their own inspirational sporting journeys.
The awards, led by Leisure and Culture Dundee and sponsored by the Gym Rental Company, celebrate the success of sporting clubs and individuals in the city.
Student volunteer was won by Katie Joss from Grove Menzieshill Hockey Club.
Rebecca Moore was awarded young volunteer and Neil Ferrier achieved school volunteer. Both are pupils at Harris Academy.
Club volunteer was won by Jerry Howett of Lochee Boys and Girls Club.
Jim Hunter from Dundee West Community Trust received the Lifetime Commitment Award.
Club of the year went to Dundee Dragons Wheelchair Sports Club, while Harris Academy was school of the year.
The Jenny Wood Allen Memorial Trophy was won by Cerys Hawes from Kanzen Karate.
Josh Holt, from St Paul’s RC Academy and Dundee United, is this year’s
young sports person. Sports person went to Sam Hickey from Lochee Boys and Girls Club.
The Changing Lives Award for Community was won by Dundee West Community Trust while the school award was presented to Rosebank Primary School.
Six-time British figure skating champion and Olympian Natasha Mckay was recognised for the success she achieved throughout her career after the presentation.
