Kinnoull celebrate promotion clincher

-

Kinnoull have clinched promotion to the East of Scotland Premier League after beating Kirkcaldy and Dysart 1-0 at home, with Sean Fergus netting.

The Tulloch Park side still have two games left, at home to Lochore tonight and on Saturday away to Preston Athletic.

During the season there was a spell when Kinnoull went seven weeks without a match and four months without a home fixture.

Following Saturday’s win, Kinnoull held their Player of the Year function in Perth’s Tulloch Institute.

The top scorer award went to Mark Smith, who has netted 25 times so far. Players’ Player of the Year was Kyle Woolley, the whole team won the Player of the Year prize, the Graham family were Club People of the Year and Connor Scott won the Young Player award.

It was a particularly good weekend for Scott. On Friday night, he netted the winning spotkick as Perth High beat Holyrood (Glasgow) to win the Scottish U18 Schools Cup at Hampden Park.

Kacper Przelicka, who plays for Letham in the Midlands League, scored for the High in regulation time and the game ended 1-1 before Connor’s winning spot-kick heroics in the shootout.

Kinnoull boss Alan Cameron, said: “There were a lot of good performances throughout the season.

“Now we want to finish on a high with victories in our final two games.”

Kinnoull’s promotion means there will be three Perth area teams in the Premier next season, with Luncarty and Jeanfield also there.

Luncarty defeated Coldstream 4-0 at Brownlands Park. Ross Mclachlan, Ben Scarborough, a Rhys Davies penalty and Olly Hamilton scored.

In the Midlands League, Scone continued their good run with a 2-1 home success against Tayport. Cody Bateman and Ben Fraser netted and Gavin Sorley saved a spot-kick. Owen Hepburn was Scone Man of the Match.

Meanwhile, Thornton Hibs’ final game of the season takes place tonight against Whitburn at Memorial Park.

And with the Burnie already crowned Second Division champions and Hibs consigned to finish sixth, come what may, it promises to be an attractive offering.

Indeed, Hibs were the last team the West Lothian visitors failed to defeat, so are on an 11-match unbeaten run.
