Police officer left scarred for life by man’ s vicious bite

Aman who left a police officer scarred for life by sinking his teeth into his flesh complained to his victim’s colleagues it had been “bogging”.

Jason-lee Jack said he had not liked the taste of human flesh after carrying out a vicious attack on PC Christopher Hail as he was being arrested.

Jack was given a community sentence as a sheriff warned him he was being given a final chance despite his bad attitude.

Jack, 20, admitted leaving the PC scarred for life as a result of the vicious bite.

Fiscal depute Christine Allen told Dundee Sheriff Court police officers had turned up at Jack’s home to execute a warrant for his arrest.

The door was answered by his mother and she told officers her son was likely to run off if he spotted them.

The accused was traced in his bedroom.

Mrs Allen said: “On seeing the officer he moved to the window.

“PC Hail used his radio to request further units and as he did, the accused bit his arm, breaking the skin.

“The officer struck the accused on the back of his head to try and break his grip.

“He suffered a significant bite mark and was bleeding.”

The court heard Jack said: “He punched me in the face. When I felt my teeth pierce his skin it was bogging. Tell him I’m sorry.”

Mrs Allen said the officer was left with a permanent scar on his arm and spent six months awaiting clearance from any bloodborne virus.

Jack, of Watson Avenue, St Andrews, admitted assaulting the officer by biting him on the body to his injury and permanent disfigurement on November 17 2021.

Sheriff Gregor Murray said: “I see lots of reports and CPO (community payback order) reviews and some are good, some are indifferent, some are bad and a few – like yours – are very bad.

“You have been indifferent and not bothered about this.

“You have got one chance only now.

“In the next four weeks you will attend every work and supervision appointment offered to you.

“You will engage with social workers and answer their questions.

“If you don’t do that you are going downstairs to jail.

“If you manage to do it well, we will do it again and do it again until you can be trusted.”

Jack had bail continued and will be sentenced on June 21.
