• Dundee and Tayside Greenpeace and St Andrews Greenpeace will meet on Saturday as part of a global day of action against deep sea mining. They will meet at Discovery Point in Dundee at 11am and participants are asked to wear fluorescent clothing.
The groups will display banners that aim to send a message to the government ahead of a meeting with the International Seabed Authority about deep sea mining.
• “The Whistler, Hadden and Print Collections in Dundee” will be revealed through a talk by Dr Billy Rough, lecturer in art history at St Andrews University, at the next meeting of the Abertay Probus Club.
It will be held at 10am on Wednesday at the Woodlands Hotel in Broughty Ferry.
• Scottish Soroptimists are holding “A Day of Discovery” in Dundee on Saturday to discuss issues around fast fashion. The event will take place at Discovery Point from 10am-4pm.
Professor Pamela Abbott from Aberdeen University will describe the unfair trading practices encountered by factories producing clothes for global fashion brands. Ruth Lindley from Transform Trade will also explain why there is a need for a fashion watchdog in the UK, while charity Dress for Success will perform a fashion show showcasing its commitment to recycling and repurposing clothes.
• Royal Tay Yacht Club is hosting a Royal Yachting Association Discover Sailing Event on Sunday from 1-4pm.
The event will run from the club’s facilities on Grassy Beach. It hopes to give interested people a chance to try sailing in various types of boats and rowing in St Ayles Skiffs. Under-18s are welcome with guardian permission. Under-10s must be accompanied by an adult.
