TOWER Hamlets gained the London Boroughs bragging rights after winning the Lord’s Taverners Disability Cricket Championships.

Tower Hamlets beat Kingston in the last over of the final after eight teams had progressed to finals day of the London-wide competition, with Lambeth, Bexley, Newham, Westminster and Hackney all involved.

The Lord’s Taverners Disability Cricket Championships (LTDCC) provides cricket participation for disabled young people aged 14-25 thanks to the support of the Berkeley Foundation, the charitable Foundation established and supported by the Berkeley Group.

Lord’s Taverners President Sir Michael Parkinson said: “Congratulations to Tower Hamlets on their victory at the LTDCC. It was a fantastic day at Lord’s that really showcased the programme and how it is making an impact across the whole of London.

“Since its launch three years ago, the LTDCC programme has helped thousands of young people improve not only their cricket skills, but also their allround development and social skills. Building on that success, the programme has recently expanded and will continue to grow; enabling the LTDCC to make a difference to thousands more disabled young people across the capital.” NICK Browne will remain at Essex until 2018 after signing a new two-year deal.

Browne, 25, hit over 1,000 first-class runs for the county in 2015 including five centuries and the opening batsman has continued that form this summer. He hit a career-best 255 in Essex’s recent County Championship match against Derbyshire and he is “delighted to have signed”.

Browne said: “I’m incredibly happy at Essex with the huge amount of potential in this squad. We have a great group of lads who are all driving towards the same goal.

“One of the main reasons for extending at Essex is I firmly believe we have a core group of players and youngsters that can push this club to success for a long time.”

Essex head coach Chris Silverwood said: “I’m delighted that Nick has agreed a new contract and it is great news for the club and all the members and supporters.

“Nick has developed into a senior member of the squad and I’m confident he will keep progressing to become a leading batsman for both club and country in the years to come.”
