Windies improving - Holder

Pakistan v West Indies - Third Test preview

- By John Hunter

JASON HOLDER is yet to lead West Indies to a Test victory since he took over the captaincy a year ago, but the all-rounder insists he is not feeling the pressure ahead of the third and final Test against Pakistan on Sunday.

The home side have an unassailable 2-0 series lead and could extend West Indies’ winless Test match run to 14, stretching back to the final Test against England last year.

Their latest defeat, by 133 runs in Dubai, has ramped up the pressure on Holder but the all-rounder has hit back by claiming his side are still developing.

“We understand the position we are in, but it’s been almost a decade that we have been struggling,” he said.

“It will take some time for these boys to develop and we have to give them the opportunity to do so.”

This victory is Pakistan’s fifth in their last seven series and a 3-0 whitewash would see them move another step closer to India at the top of the Test rankings.

Their two victories have looked comfortable, but Holder is adamant his side have competed well against their hosts and could cause problems in the final Test in Sharjah.

“We’ve been inconsistent for some but I’m here to do a job and I’m trying to do the best I possibly can,” he said.

“If you have watched our cricket for the last couple of months, we have shown signs of improvement.

“In Dubai, we put ourselves in a position from where we could have won it. It is just a matter of consistency here.”
