The Last

Bat you bought/used? That would have been a Kookaburra Kahuna, I tried to copy AB de Villiers. This is my second year with Kippax so it would have been about 18 months ago. Five-wicket haul or century? My last century was last year for Yorkshire Academy in the cup final. I can only remember a shot off Matty Fisher’s brother, a four over mid-off and obviously winning the game was a great experience. Injury? I have not had any injuries that have affected my playing yet which is good – touch wood. Trophy you won? The Yorkshire League Cup, we were batting first, the team got 282 of which I scored 119 then we bowled them out for about 152. It felt amazing, it’s always good getting silverware.

The Jury’s Out

Tea or Coffee? Tea, but I do like a caramel latte. I don’t like the taste of coffee but I’m sure it will grow on me. Caribbean with the missus or Magaluf with the lads? That’s a good question, probably Magaluf but I’m not really a summer sun person. I am more into skiing and going to places and doing stuff. Red or white wine? I am not a fan of wine – I hate it. 50-over, t20 or County Championship? All of the above. I would like to play in all three formats of the game, I don’t think I could choose just one format.

Time added on

Who did you support as a boy? I have always been a Yorkshire boy so I have never known anything else. I live in Ilkley although I never really went to games, I remember a couple but we used to watch it on TV. Best coach you have ever played with? I can’t single any of them out, I can’t say any were better than the others. My first coach was my Dad, he’s not a qualified coach but he got me loving the game. The most nervous when next into bat? I’m not really sure, I am always opening so I don’t really see what people are like. I try and concentrate on my own game, try and stay as calm as possible. One rule you could change? I’d make it so you cannot be out first ball. Three words to describe yourself? Energetic, passionate and I like having a laugh – I know that’s not exactly three. Which TV pundit makes you cringe and which do you really listen to? I’m not really sure, I can’t say any stand out as memorable for me at the moment. Do you have any superstitions? I don’t have superstitions. I used to but nowadays I call them more of a routine. Superstitions are stupid if they make you feel that if you don’t do them then you will get out. That’s not the case. My routine is left pad on first then right pad. I also swing my arms and play a couple of air shots when I step onto the outfield. Hobbies? Skiing is a big hobby of mine and the squad, too. I quite like going to the gym as well, in fact, anything that’s active is good for me. And, of course, I like socialising with mates. Dinner party? Margot Robbie from the film Suicide Squad should be there and then Peter Kay would bring the laughs and the Indian captain Virat Kohli would be good, too – I would love to pick his brain a bit about batting.

And finally:

Worst dressed? Jordan Thompson, he’s on the senior academy. He wears very tight jeans, he’s a bit of a girl although I like him a lot. He just wears very tight clothing and will hate me for saying this.
