Ward arrival will be the key

THE ADDITION of Australian batsman Tim Ward could make all the difference for Shrewsbury this season – according to club stalwart Ed Foster.

The Shrews finished third in the Birmingham & District league last season but Ward – who opens the batting for Parramatta in the NSW Premier League – will boost their squad.

Foster is an experienced batsman and vice-chairman of the club – who kick off their league campaign this weekend against Barnt Green.

And with a new skipper in Ben Stebbings at the helm and with Ward at the top of the order, Foster is feeling confident.

“Tim’s coach at Parramatta was the captain of the Cambridge Granta side we beat in the National KO final a few years ago, so when the opportunity came up for Tim to play for us the coach was quite happy to let him come our way having seen at first hand that we’re a decent club,” he said.

“Tim is essentially a young guy looking to come over and play some cricket. He comes over with no expectation from our side.We have an opportunity for somebody to come and play and we hope Tim does very well.”
