Ross is the boss after heroics for Woodhall

-

WOODHALL Spa have known how talented an all-rounder Ross Dixon is for a while but he put it all together in stunning fashion this weekend with a maiden Premier League century and a five-for to boot.

The leg-spinner joined Woodhall in the Lincolnshire Premier League in 2015, and has progressed to the extent that he is now skippering the side in the absence of first team captain Jack Luffman who is recovering from having his appendix out.

Dixon certainly led from the front against Spalding, coming in at eight and hammering an unbeaten 102 off just 73 balls – a feat which is all the more remarkable given he had never previously made a halfcentury at this level.

After reaching three figures with a pair of a scoops, he followed that up with five wickets in the 34-run success – much to the delight of Luffman.

“Ross joined us in 2015 and has improved a lot over the course of three seasons that he’s been here,” he said.

“We had Sri Lanka spinner Malinga Bandara when he first arrived and he learned a lot from him and he’s really progressed since.

“The captaincy looks to have suited him and he was great on Saturday. He’s a very talented all-rounder but I’m not sure many people have managed a game like that.

“As a batsman he’s something of a pocket rocket, he likes to be quite destructive and can hit the ball long but he’s also got some variety to his game.

“Ross is a great all-rounder, he is also a very good fielder for us, I’d say one of the top two or three in the entire league.

“We’ve got another good allrounder in Joe Irving, and he and Ross are best mates so there is some healthy competition between the two.”
