WHILE acknowledging that it’s been slim pickings for the England Test selectors, the Ashes squad announcement did make me think that they may have fallen for one old trick, possibly reinvented by our Aussie friends.

Aussie agent abroad Shane Warne has been a leading advocate of Hampshire spinner Mason Crane, and was the first to catch my ear when it came to the potential resurrection of Ageas Bowl captain James Vince.

Perhaps I’m being cynical and that Shane was merely a mouthpiece for his old mates at Hampshire.

Whatever, the Aussies may think that potentially facing both Vince and Ballance at Adelaide more than compensates for their own return of Glenn Maxwell.
