Eco­nomic week ahead

◆ Euro­zone in­dus­trial pro­duc­tion fig­ures are ex­pected to fol­low trends in the UK, where man­u­fac­tur­ing has been slug­gish re­cently and poor out­put has been hold­ing back GDP growth. On Tues­day, a mea­sure of US in­fla­tion – the pro­ducer price in­dex – will be re­leased. There will be more data from the euro­zone as fig­ures on the trade bal­ance are re­leased. Europe has yet to be sig­nif­i­cantly hit by Trump’s trade wars. Wed­nes­day has a bumper set of UK re­leases, with in­fla­tion, hous­ing loans and house prices emerg­ing. There will also be in­for­ma­tion on euro­zone car reg­is­tra­tions, usu­ally a code for the econ­omy at large. The qual­i­ta­tive Beige Book will be re­leased in the US, giv­ing oc­ca­sional in­sights into the real econ­omy. The Bank of Eng­land re­leases its credit con­di­tions sur­vey on Thurs­day for quar­ter four of 2018, show­ing mort­gage lend­ing lev­els. There will also be hous­ing data in the US, as fig­ures on con­struc­tion and in­fla­tion in the euro­zone. On Fri­day, more re­tail sales num­bers will be re­leased, fol­low­ing re­ports of the worst Christ­mas for a decade.
