West Lothian

The Daily Telegraph - Property - - Marketplace -

This retired 18th-century coaching inn in the conservation village of Mid Calder, west of Edinburgh, is deceptive. Though it looks as if it is on two storeys, the five-bedroom house is built on a slope down to Linhouse Water, on which it has fishing rights, and there is a lower ground floor that is hidden from the front. It is a pretty and extremely private spot: the walled 1.36 acre garden is partly formal and partly woodland. There is even a section with a separate entrance that could be developed, subject to the necessary planning permissions (Savills: 0131 225 2089).
