Stamp duty has come under fire again, this time from the boss of one of the world’s biggest property groups.

Christian Ulbrich, global chief executive of Jones Lang LaSalle, said that the tax distorts the market, penalises landlords and second homeowners, and aggravates the core problem – low supply.

He said that stamp duty makes it “prohibitive” to build more houses, as lack of buyer affordability filters through to developers.
