A popular yachting stop-off from fashionable Ibiza next door, the sandy beach of Playa de Ses Illetes is on a narrow peninsula on the north of Formentera. The go-to spot on the small island, it is backed by sand dunes that slope gently into the turquoise sea, providing another European beach with Caribbean flair. Frank Lampard is among celebrities who have recently visited the beach’s popular Juan y Andrea restaurant.
The island offers a quieter scene than Ibiza, says Cathy Ouwehand of Savills. “It suits someone who is looking for a secluded island, which is achievable in Formentera even in the busy summer months,” she says. “Sometimes owners from Ibiza move there for a change, while others may have properties on both islands.”
Prices are higher than Ibiza, with a village house around €1million.
