FOR SALE: YOUR CHANCE TO DO A ‘GRAND DESIGN’
A rare building with the potential to be turned into an imaginative family home is being sold through auction next week. The water tower in Stafford has amazing views over the surrounding area and is a blank canvas for ambitious self-builders. The Channel 4 series Grand Designs has shown the renovation of such towers over the years. It was previously a part of the Stafford General Asylum and dates back to the 1800s, when it was designed by local architect John Potter. It has a reserve price of just £5,000 and the auction will take place at the Molineux Stadium, Wolverhampton, on Wednesday through iamsold.co.uk, the online auction company.
MEL B CUTS THE PRICE OF HER LA HOME
The Spice Girl’s property in the Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles, has been on the market since last year. According to the Los Angeles Times, Mel B, pictured left, has put the fourbedroom house back on the market for a reduced $7.495million (£5.5million), down from last year’s price of $8.995million.
She’ll still be making a big profit on it, having bought it four years ago for about $4.34million. It is modern in design and has a swimming pool and spa.
HIGH-END SALES SPEED UP BEYOND LONDON
Analysis of Land Registry data by Knight Frank found that last year, sales of properties worth more than £1million surged in areas beyond London’s commuter belt.
While 60 per cent of million-pound-plus sales are in the capital, high levels of house price growth in prime areas beyond has led to the geographical spread of million-pound homes widening.
The sharpest rise in high-end sales was in Yorkshire, where there were 40 per cent more such sales last year, followed by the North West with 36 per cent more and the West Midlands, with 19 per cent higher sales.
These are all areas in which there has been strong house price growth in recent months.
The highest number of £1million-plus sales was in Elmbridge, in Surrey, followed by Windsor and Maidenhead.
