Epona Nursing (2016) by Matt Hamon
Every winter, Native American hunters gather on the fringes of Yellowstone National Park and wait for buffalo to leave the protection of the park in search of food. A small group of so-called “primitive skills practitioners” help butcher the animals they kill, in exchange for the chance to scavenge whatever’s left behind. Montanabased Matt Hamon won a Syngenta Photography Award for his images of these “gleaners”, including this picture taken in their meat processing shed, where scraps of buffalo flesh are canned, their bones crafted into tools or ornamental objects. All Syngenta Award winners are on show at Somerset House.
