If he were a rich man…
FIDDLER ON THE ROOF
Trevor Nunn (Les Misérables) downsizes this evergreen 1964 musical of Jewish life in a Russian shtetl, encompassing the audience in a mock-village of wooden huts, hanging lanterns and wandering musicians. Andy Nyman acquits himself with aplomb in the lead role of dairy-man Tevye, complaining to his God about his passion-pursuing daughters. Given the recent resurgence of antiSemitism, this evocation of a vanished world feels as relevant – and poignant – as ever. Menier Chocolate Factory, London SE1 (020 7378 1713), until March 9

THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME
Those who thought they’d missed their chance when this multi-award-winning adaptation of Mark Haddon’s bestseller about a socially adrift young boy left the West End last summer, take note – it’s back for another run across winter and spring. Marianne Elliott’s dazzling production stars Joshua Jenkins as the young hero Christopher Boone. Piccadilly Theatre,

Johnny Flynn and Game of Thrones’s Kit Harington give performances that outshine this ropy revival of the late Sam Shepard’s 1980 comedy of sibling rivalry. Vaudeville Theatre, London WC2 (0330 333 4814), until Feb 23
