Kaiser Chiefs’ seventh album is inscrutabl­y titled Duck. Does it represent an aquatic fowl, a dismal cricketing score, or a warning of what the band should do when critics get their hands on their latest release?

The indie-rock ensemble may be deeply uncool and completely out of touch with pop trends but they seem impervious to critical opinion. Despite the fact that more than a decade has passed since they last scored a Top 10 single (Never Miss A Beat in 2008), they still sell out arenas.

They are a band who have found a niche and exploit it with energy and good cheer. Duck is an exciting album, packed with witty vignettes of modern life rammed home with anthemic sing-and-shoutalong choruses thoroughly and exuberantl­y thrashed to within an inch of their life.
