Eileen Atkins’s presence in this middlebrow comedy drama remains baffling, but at least she’s being given something to do this week. While a surprise engagement has the community in a tizzy, her character Ruth’s increasing forgetfulness is causing concern, made worse by her irritation about a noisy new neighbour (Sian Thomas).
